| Report |
5794 spectators had come
to Inter VR Arena this cloudy day. Inter had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation.
Lineup: Fajardo - Templeton, da Cunha, Velho - Zamora, Mäntylä, Custóias,
Saldanha - Brandt, Brandão, Santos.
alcobacense tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. Lineup: Guedes -
Peres, Gouveia, Santos, Cupertino - Ranby, Holtenér, Olsson, Fraga - Freitas,
Vouzela.
alcobacense strategy involved pressing and cutting off attack angles of their
opponents from all over the field. A wonderful trick by Colin Brandts, leaving
Sílvio Santos bewildered, really deserved to end in a goal but the goalie made a
fine save. Many thought Nuno Saldanha ought to have been awarded a penalty shot
in the 11th minute, as he went down trying to circle the visitors keeper Ângelo
Guedes. A mistake by the home sides central defence in the 22nd minute allowed
Márcio Vouzela to score 0 - 1 for alcobacense. One of many good passes from Lars
Ranby at the wing was recieved and skillfully taken care of by Jorge Freitas,
scoring for alcobacense to 0 - 2. After this alcobacense lowered the tempo in
order to concentrate on their defensive efforts. 28 minutes into the game Inter
broke through on the left wing and Sebastião Velho managed to reduce the lead to
1 - 2. The teams went for a half-time break at 1 - 2. Inter, bringing the final
ball possession rate to 60 percent, dominated the battle.
After a foul in the 57:th minute Inter got themselves a free kick just outside
the penalty area. Marcelo Brandão evened the score out 2 to 2. Inter seemed to
suffer a certain amount of confusion about the organization of the team. Luciano
Fraga of alcobacense received a yellow card in the 81st minute for
unsportsmanlike behaviour. Several players now looked tired, especially Diogo
Cupertino who quite horribly caused the 3 - 2 goal as he lost the ball to
Sebastião Velho of Inter, who seemed to have some energy left. After an
industrious effort down the middle Bernardo Santos could have closed the game
off in the 85:th minute, but his finishing shot hit the post. Per Olsson almost
scored an equalising goal for alcobacense in the 87:th minute, but Cesar Fajardo
made an Weak save, tipping the awkwardly curled shot past the post. Inter
had obvious problems in finding their positions. In the games 87:th minute the
visitors levelled to 3 - 3 as Jonas Holtenér struck home on a bar rebound,
following a shot from the right. Inter seemed to suffer a certain amount of
confusion about the organization of the team. The fortyfive minutes were
dominated by alcobacense, with an impressive 56 percent possession of the ball.
Inter´s best player was Marcelo Brandão. Colin Brandt on the other hand, had a
terrible day. The most dominating alcobacense player was without a doubt
Maurício Gouveia. Jonas Holtenér on the other hand, had a terrible day. The
match ends 3 - 3.
